Introduction

Our God/god is the one to whom we look for security, significance and satisfaction.
(Matthew 6:24)

1.  We must return to God and stop robbing him.

a.  God appeals to us to return to him. 

b.  The purpose of the tithe (Genesis 28:20-22)

Tithing is an expression that we trust in the Lord for all we need, that he alone is our God, and that we are his people.

c.  The command to tithe (Leviticus 27:30-32 •  Romans 11:16)

2.  Tithing breaks the curse of poverty.

Proverbs 11:24 •  Proverbs 28:27 

3.  Tithing is relevant for believers today.

a.  Jesus affirmed the importance of the tithe. (Luke 11:42)

b.  Paul affirmed the principle of the tithe. (1Corinthians 9:13-14)

c.  Those who live by the Spirit always exceed the demands of the law, for the law is now written upon their hearts. (Romans 8:3-4, Acts 4:32) 

Responding to God’s Word

1.  How is God calling me to consecration my life to the him?

2.  Am I looking to the Lord for my security, significance and satisfaction?

3.  Do my actions demonstrate that all I am and all I have belongs to God?
