You’re welcome just as you areWe promise not to pressure you to sign up for anything, or join anything. We don’t expect you to get involved in anything until you feel completely comfortable doing so. We welcome you where ever you may be at in your spiritual journey. A bit about usGreat Oaks is unique in that we are a congregation of home churches. We meet together on Sunday mornings at West Middle School in Rochester Hills, MI, and meet during the week in our Home Churches that include 15-20 adults and kids. Though most people eventually come to both, some people come only to Sunday services and some come only to Home Church services. We're fine with that. What we desire is for everyone to grow in commitment to Christ, to true community, and to the cause of bringing God's love and life to all people. Sunday services are casual and include upbeat contemporary worship and relevant, biblical teaching. Home churches are based on the model of the house church in the Bible. We begin with food, have a time of sharing, sing worship songs, have an interactive learning time, and pray for the world, our community and one another. We also |
intentionally reach out into the community together. You can learn lots more as you browse our website.
Startup affiliations and historyThe existence of Great Oaks is an example of the amazing degree of cooperation that is occurring today between different types of Christian churches and organizations. We were established as a joint venture by Kensington Community Church, a non-denominational congregation in Troy, MI, and the Reformed Church in America (RCA), the oldest denomination in America (founded way back in 1628 by a group of Dutch settlers in New Amsterdam, a.k.a. New York City), and led by a pastor who has been in the Vineyard Association of Churches for 20 years! While the RCA has a long and rich history, they are proactively planting scores of vibrant, contemporary congregations, such as Great Oaks, across the nation. Great Oaks began meeting in Home Churches in spring 2009 and began public Sunday services on October 10, 2010. We presently have five Home Churches meeting. |
